Professor Ali Poorani from the University of Delaware visits SSTH

http://www.ssth.ch/dbFile/8803/306183_279953518687929_165920610091221_1371269_2562530_n.jpgProfessor Poorani opened his workshop on multi-cultural team building with an interesting and fun group work using Play-dough to construct a "green-hotel" concept.

The groups, comprising over 15 nationalities, not only reported on their quick ideas for the concept, but also what kind of difficulties or adaptations were required for them to reach agreement on the project.

Professor Poorani will be teaching this week as part of our yearly exchange program with the University of Delaware. With such a fun start, I'm sure the course will be a big success.

87 new SSTH hotel management graduates
On 26th May 2011, SSTH Swiss School of Tourism and Hospitality graduates received their hotel management diploma. With this “Round-the-World-Ticket” the new hoteliers have a head-start for their international hospitality careers. read more

Study Trip to Mallorca

http://www.ssth.ch/dbFile/7658/_DSC0262.jpegWithin the framework of the subject, Project Management at SSTH this year’s study-trip project team organized an informative and insightful trip to Majorca. Between the 14th and 18th April, a total of 27 students and employees of SSTH had the opportunity to look behind the scenes of the hotels "The St. Regis Mardavall" and "Castillo Hotel Son Vidadie".

The SSTH Group also gained interesting knowledge on organic wine production on Majorca when visiting the wine producers "Bodegas Crestatx" in Sa Pobla and "Bodega Can Coleto" in Petra.

Career Day - 24th March 2011

The annual Career Day offers students the opportunity to set up valuable contacts with appealing companies from the hospitality industry. On 24th March 2011 numerous famous companies were invited to Swiss School to present their businesses and offer challenging job opportunities. National favourites include, the Kursaal Bern, in addition to international operators such as Viking, Seabourn Cruises and Starwood Hotels who will visit SSTH to source employees and trainees for the future employment.

The SSTH Career Day offers a perfect opportunity to make that first step into the professional world! The day is organized by a student team as part of their project management studies.
 

Swiss School Hospitality Management Program in process of accreditation according to the new Swiss Legislation

The three-year hospitality management program at SSTH Swiss School of Tourism and Hospitality, Chur/Passugg, Switzerland is the first English taught program of higher professional education under process of accreditation according to the new Swiss legislation.

WorldExpo Shanghai

Two of our Chinese students, Amy and Mona, were invited to the local radio station in nearby Chur to talk about life in China, what meaning the WorldExpo has for China and what they personally expect from the Expo in Shanghai. They also talked about their experiences of studying and their life in Passugg, Switzerland.
 

Congratulation

49 new hoteliers celebrated the award of their diploma on May 27th, 2010. Ms. Li from China was awarded the prize for the best grade average of 5.47 points out of 6 and Ms. Rho from South Korea wrote the best diploma paper with the title "Strategies to sell Seoul as a Leisure Destination to Europeans". The proud graduates are from Switzerland, Germany, Lithuania, Finland, India, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the United States of America. Congratulation to all and best wishes for a successful future.
 

Further education for the employees of the Glacier Express train

A group of students from various countries from the Colleges of Applied Science supports two railway companies and a catering company to work and improve on the already very high service quality on the trains of Glacier Express. The Glacier Express connects the two top tourism destinations in Switzerland - St. Moritz and Zermatt. The students teach the staff members working on the train in service attitude, service orientation and quality. The focus is also set on the understanding of different cultures and behaviours. The assignments include particularly the preferences of Asian guests, as almost one third of the guests travelling with Glacier Express, are Asian tourists.
 

SSTH students at the Swiss Tourism Day on May 5, 2010

The Swiss Tourism Day 2010 was held in Flims, not far from Swiss School. A group of Swiss School students supported the hosting 5* Waldhaus Flims Mountain Resort & Spa / Waldhaus Arena Flims in the Food & Beverage area. Every year, the Swiss Tourism Day welcomes approx. 1‘000 tourism experts and professionals from the Swiss tourism industry. This year’s event focused on „Re-invent Summer“.
