Michael Hartmann, Managing Director, SSTH

Michael Hartmann took on his role as Managing Director of the Swiss School of Tourism and Hospitality in June 2016. His aim is to drive the development of SSTH in line with the strategic objectives of EHL Group, reinforcing the School’s position as a leader in vocational hospitality education and providing the best career opportunities for its students. Mr Hartman adds: “It is an honor to have such an opportunity to help unlock the growth potential of SSTH and continue its path in becoming the first international address for holistic hospitality education.”

Mr Hartmann joined Ecole hotelière de Lausanne (EHL) in 2014 as a Senior Executive Advisor within the General Secretary. He managed the creation of the Lausanne Report, a strategic initiative to position EHL as a thought leader by assessing the future trends and drivers that will inspire all actors of the global hospitality industry.

Prior to this, Mr Hartmann held strategic positions within the Siemens Information & Communication Networks (ICN). He headed the Strategic Marketing department for the hotel and healthcare industries from 1998 to 2001, and was then in charge of customer relationship management and operations for international hotel chains. In 2002 he moved to Global Key Account Management for IT and telecommunication solutions where he was responsible for international hotel chains, and in 2005 he headed the One Hospitality Market Development Board as a Senior Vice President for all Siemens divisions. He also took on responsibilities for the entertainment market.

Mr Hartmann began his career with an apprenticeship at the “Hotel Deutscher Kaiser” Munich continuing with Kempinski AG Hotel group. He graduated from the Hotel Management School in Heidelberg, Germany and attended Cornell University (PDP) in Ithaca, USA. In 2004 he received a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Henley Management College, UK.

He has held several senior positions for consulting and IT companies within the hotel industry, including Dr. Kaub Consult, Micros-Fidelio, Hogatex, Burns & Gimble and Siemens AG. He speaks German, English and French.
